Cheap Flights from Bristol

Bristol International Airport (airport code BRS), situated eight miles south of the city of Bristol, is not a major airport in the UK, but does offer quite a number of direct flights to cities throughout Europe. More than 15 airlines serve Bristol with regularly scheduled flights, reaching points throughout Europe, northern Africa, the Caribbean and the United States. The one notable absence on the destinations list is the city of London - in order to reach London from Bristol, you will need to go by rail or bus.

From Bristol you can find a flight to nearly every major city in Europe, as well as points beyond, but the airlines with the longest list of destinations served from Bristol are the two giants of low cost carriers, easyJet and Ryanair, the latter of which begins service at the Bristol Airport in late 2007. Continental Airlines has a direct flight from Bristol to Newark Airport just outside New York City. There are also several charter airlines which operate primarily seasonal flights from Bristol, so while they are not to be counted on for flights year round they can sometimes offer cheap flights to popular destinations during the peak season. A list of the destinations served from the Bristol Airport is here, and a destination map - for you visual learners - is here.

While there is no rail service linking the city of Bristol to Bristol Airport, there is the "Bristol International Flyer" airport express bus service which runs frequently throughout the day and takes approximately 30 minutes. The Flyer is the only link between Bristol railway station (Temple Meads), Bristol bus station and Bristol International Airport. You can research all your transport options on this page, which also includes directions to Bristol International if you are driving.

Expansions of the route network in recent years for budget airline easyJet has led to relatively rapid growth in passenger traffic at Bristol Airport. Attempted expansions of the actual airport, however, have led to protests. And in January 2007, due to a problem with the runway not allowing for rain water to drain off, many flights into Bristol were either cancelled or redirected to other airports. The runway issue was resolved after the airport closed down temporarily.
