Barcelona is the ideal place to get away from life's monotony and experience a bit of Spanish sizzle - and we mean that both in terms of the sun and the spices. Whatever your pleasure, Barcelona can deliver.
Barcelona International Airport (airport code BCN), also called El Prat as it is actually located in a town called El Prat de Llobregat, is approximately six miles from Barcelona city centre. It is Spain's second largest airport, just as Barcelona is Spain's second largest city. Sometimes these things just work out perfectly. The Barcelona Airport is also conveniently located close to the Port of Barcelona, making it a popular destination for holiday-makers who are boarding any of the enormous cruise ships which set sail from Barcelona.
While Madrid's airport is Spain's main international gateway, Barcelona's airport serves primarily domestic and European routes. Vueling Airlines and Clickair maintain hubs at Barcelona, and the airport is a focus city for Spanair, Air Europa and Iberia Airlines. Among airlines which fly direct from the UK, bmibaby flies from Birmingham, easyJet flies from Belfast, Bristol, Liverpool, Gatwick, Luton, Stansted and Newcastle, Jet2.com flies from Belfast International and Leeds, Monarch Airlines flies from Manchester, Aer Lingus flies from Belfast, British Airways flies from Gatwick and Heathrow, and Flyglobespan flies from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. You can browse the entire list of airlines serving Barcelona here.
From the airport, you have loads of choices for ground transport. The RENFE Carcanias rail line number 10 connects the airport with Barcelona city centre and takes just over a half hour. There are several bus services from the airport, stopping at every airport terminal. Taxis can be hired from any of the terminals as well. You can read about all your public transport options here, including the various rates for each one. If you prefer to hire your own car, these are the agencies serving the Barcelona Airport.
