There are four major airports serving the Los Angeles area but the majority of travelers will enter the United States via the largest of them - Los Angeles International Airport. The other three airports are good alternatives if you choose an indirect flight into Los Angles and if you need to visit places close to the city, rather than the city itself.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the largest airport serving Los Angeles. Located about 16 miles from downtown Los Angeles, LAX is known as a major gateway into Asia and South Pacific, but there are plenty of flights to Europe as well. Direct flights from London are offered by: Air New Zealand, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, United Airlines, bmi and Continental Airlines. There are plenty of choices to get from the airport to downtown LA, including: shuttles, light rail, buses, taxis and vans. Details about all of them can be found here and if you prefer to drive your own car, here is a list of the car rental agencies available at the airport.
There are three more airports serving the Los Angeles area, but none of them receive direct flights from any British Airport. However, depending on what you plan to do in LA and whether you consider taking an indirect flight to get here, probably one of the smaller airports would be a good choice for you:
