Cheap Flights to Madrid

Spain's capital city is alive with world-famous museums, amazing cuisine and legendary nightlife. Even in the sweltering summer heat, it is still a great choice for a city break - provided you give in to the local custom of the afternoon siesta. Really, a long nap in the afternoon is the best way to not only cope with the heat but also replenish your energy for the other local customs - eating late dinners and dancing until dawn.

Madrid Barajas International Airport (airport code MAD) is the largest in the country and lies almost seven and a half miles from the city centre. Iberia Airlines makes Madrid its primary hub, and also calls Terminal 4 home - the largest single terminal in the world at more than one million square metres. Take care that you do not get lost.

Among the airlines flying from UK cities to Madrid, CityJet flies from London City, easyJet flies from Bristol, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Luton and Liverpool, Ryanair flies from Bournemouth and East Midlands, British Airways flies from Gatwick and Heathrow, BA CityFlyer flies from London City, Iberia flies from Heathrow, and Iberworld flies mostly summer flights from Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich, Gatwick and Stansted. A full listing of all the airlines serving Madrid is here.

To help you in navigating Madrid's airport, especially the gigantic Terminal 4, there is an interactive terminal map here. Should you grow hungry at the airport, or have a sudden need to spend a few Euro on something, you can browse the airport restaurants and shops here. Transport from the airport into Madrid city centre is dead easy with the Metro line number eight, which runs between Terminal 2 or Terminal 4 and the city. While the Spanish Railway Network (RENFE) does not run to the Madrid Airport, the AVE trains and smaller local trains are easily accessible via the Metro. There are also several bus lines which serve Madrid-Barajas, and taxis as well. You can learn more about all your public transport options here. If you prefer to have your own car, you can hire one from the agencies listed here.
