Paris is a fantastic choice for a city break, even though it is not on a Mediterranean beach or, honestly, the cheapest place to spend your holiday. It is, however, Paris - and there is only one of those on earth. Flying into Paris is relatively easy, as well, with two massive international airports (not to mention one smaller airport) to serve you. Well, you and the millions of other travellers traipsing through the airports every year. But let's just focus on you and what you want, shall we?
Charles de Gaulle International Airport (airport code CDG) is the largest airport serving Paris as well as France as a whole. Only London Heathrow can beat Charles de Gaulle Airport in terms of passenger traffic. It is roughly 15 miles from Paris city centre near the town of Roissy. This airport is a hub of Air France, but is served by a long list of airlines, which you can explore here. (It should be noted that the list of airlines encompasses not only the airlines flying into Charles de Gaulle, but also the other airports owned and operated by the Aéroports de Paris company which manages both Charles de Gaulle and Paris-Orly.) The list is extensive, and you will find many options for airlines to choose from to reach Charles de Gaulle - including bmibaby, Flybe, CityJet, Brit Air, easyJet and Jet2.com.
This is an airport which is notorious for being difficult to navigate - and its employees have a reputation for being, at best, unhelpful. So arm yourself in advance with these airport maps and then, fingers crossed, you will not need to ask anyone for anything. Your options for getting into the Paris city centre are plentiful, and include Paris' RER trains and city buses. You can learn more about public transport here (just scroll down a bit, past the Orly information). If you prefer to hire a taxi, see the information on this page, and if you would like the independence of your own car, car hire agencies are listed here.
Paris' second major airport, Paris-Orly Airport (airport code ORY), is quite small in comparison to Charles de Gaulle Airport. Still, it is a large international airport and is home to some of Europe's low cost carriers. As you might surmise from the name, the airport lies in the town of Orly, south of Paris. The same long list of airlines which serve the Aéroports de Paris airports, including Orly, can be found here. Some of the smaller airlines which fly into Orly include Thomsonfly and City Jet, although most of the budget carriers fly not from the UK but other destinations around Europe.
To reach the Paris city centre from Orly Airport, you can take the RER train or city buses, or you can hire a taxi or your own car. All ground transport options are listed on the left menu of this page.
Paris Beauvais Tillé Airport (airport code BVA) is a small airport serving Paris, and while you might never have heard of it, it is the Paris airport used by Ryanair - so it is definitely one to check for cheap flights. Typical of many Ryanair airports, it is a fair distance from Paris city centre - so do not forget to factor in your ground transport costs along with the cost of your airline ticket to make sure it is really the deal it seems to be. Many travellers arriving at Beauvais Tillé use the Paris shuttle to get into the city, which is generally an hour and a quarter trip. You can learn more about it here. Alternately, if you want to hire a car these are the agencies to look for, and if you want to hire a taxi (and spend an enormous piece of your travel budget just getting to the Eiffel Tower) you can learn about that here.
