Thailand has always been a very affordable vacation destination and for the Brits (and all Europeans) it's a "mild" way to get to know Asia. Bangkok is the most tourist-friendly city in the entire Asia. When the cold and damp British weather takes over, it's time to get on a flight to Thailand.

Airport

Bangkok is served by one of Asia's biggest and busiest airports and receives plenty of flights from all over the world. Even if you don't plan to visit Bangkok, you'll still be routed through the city so it's best to just buy a ticket into Bangkok and then look for a low-cost domestic carrier for the last leg of your journey.

Suvarnabhumi Airport, also referred to as the New Bangkok International Airport is the main gateway into Thailand. It is located 19 miles / 30 km from the city center and was opened in September 2006. The airport only features one huge terminal building which handles both domestic and international flights. It is the main hub for Thai Airways International, Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia and serves as focus city for China Airlines, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Air India, Emirates and SriLankan Airlines. Unfortunately there are no direct flights from the UK but the indirect flights connecting in Dubai or Mumbai are plenty and affordable. While the airport's website doesn't list the airlines which fly here, you can check the flight status on this page and get the details you need to plan your flight.

The airport's website is not particularly user-friendly, but the airport surely meets a lot of travelers' expectations. If you want to do some shopping, here are the details about the shops located within the airport. All that shopping must have created quite an appetite so make sure to check out the information about the restaurants here.

There are quite a lot of options to get from the airport to Bangkok city center and you can find them all here. Should you want to drive your own car, you can find all the car hire companies available at the airport on this page.
